The Star that is eating a planet

Hubble has a new page on Wasp-12,a yellow dwarf star 600 light years away. Pretty ordinary, except for its innermost planet, Wasp-12b. Wasp-12b is so close, it has a “year” that is only 26 hours long. It’s also a pretty big planet, too, 1.4 Jupiters in size.
Wasp-12b is also doomed, having an orbit so close to its sun. In a few million years, the tidal forces already distorting its shape will finish their work, and break up Wasp-12b into fragments to be absorbed by the star.
