The Needles Scenic Byway in Custer State Park, South Dakota is full of eye candy of strange and wonderful formations weathered from the Black Hills.
This one is called, for obvious reasons, The Needle’s Eye.
Picking up from yesterday’s picture, this is a different part of the extensive University of Minnesota arboretum. This is the Arboretum’s own Japanese garden. While I don’t think its quite as well done as Normandale College’s or the Como Park Conservatory’s, its still idyllic.
Today’s picture for you takes us far downriver from the Guthrie and Minneapolis, to John Latsch State Park. Frequent viewers of my photos remember that this is the park with the staircase of doom.
Anyway, this is a monochrome shot from the bluff, showing Highway 61 as it parallels the Mississippi. You can also see Wisconsin on the far side of the river in the background.
And so the matchup is set. Titledown versus Steelertown. The Jets Namath Curse kicked in at the beginning, spotting Pittsburgh a 24-0 lead that they couldn’t climb out of, even if they did try. The Packers outlasted three quarterbacks from Chicago, even if they played rather sloppily.
Pittsburgh versus Green Bay. A matchup full of NFL history and tradition, and two pretty darned good teams. I am hoping for another exciting Superbowl. I remember the bad days of the late 80’s and the early to mid 90’s when Superbowls were mostly blowouts. We’ve been lucky the last few years. Here’s hoping that streak continues.
My second book of the year is my first Laura Anne Gilman novel…
